PRACTICAL INFORMATION

About Bordeaux

A world-renowned city, Bordeaux is famed for its vineyards, gastronomy, and unique art de vivre. To explore the city and its heritage, you will be spoilt for choice. Whether you wish to wander through Bordeaux’s World Heritage area (the largest urban one in the world!) and its beautiful quarters, discover the city’s sites and monuments by bike, visit its museums, enjoy a romantic weekend, or travel with your children, you won’t be bored. The only risk is that you don’t have enough time to do everything: this will only make you want to come back!

Visa

If you are coming to AICAS 2025 from abroad and you are not a citizen of a State within the European Union or the Schengen Area, you are required to have a valid passport (issued less than 10 years ago and with three months validity after leaving France) and a French short-stay visa before entering France. Everything you need to know to apply for such a visa is detailed here, on the France Visas website provided by the government.

Please note that if you plan on attending AICAS 2025, you should start this process as soon as possible, and at the latest one month before your inbound trip.

The secretariat will send official invitation letters upon request. Such an invitation is intended to help potential attendees obtain visas. It is not a commitment on the part of the organizers to provide any financial support and it will only be issued to attendees paid in full. To get your letter, please send an e-mail to: secretariat@aicas2025.org

Sanitary restrictions

France no longer requires a vaccine pass or specific rules at national borders related to the COVID sanitary crisis (see Coming to France? Your Covid-19 questions answered).

Travel by plane

The city of Bordeaux is easily accessible from anywhere in the world directly via plane. Indeed, the three major airline alliances (namely Sky Alliance, Sky Team and Oneworld) serves Bordeaux either directly or with a stopover in Europe, but without the hassle of going through Paris.

Planes land at Bordeaux Merignac Airport, and from there it is only a short connection to the city center either by taxis or using public transports.

At the airport, taxis can be found at the outside entrance of Hall A. A trip to the city center will cost you around 30€ during the day or 45€ at night with a travel time of 20 minutes.

Another cheaper option is to take the tramway: the A line links the airport to downtown Bordeaux in 35 min, with a tram coming in every 10 minutes from 5:00 AM to midnight all week. The stop for the A line can be found in front of the express parking, in front of the airport terminals near the Hall B. One ticket provides access to any tram or bus during one hour for only 1.80€. Tickets can either be bought at the vending machines placed near

Travel by train

At only 2 hours by train from Paris, Bordeaux is easily and quickly accessible by rail from various cities in Europe. Trains can be booked via the French railway company SNCF, or via Trainline, which operates throughout Europe.

The station is well served by public transports: tram lines C and D as well as many buses stop in front of the train station and can bring you all over the city.

Getting to the conference

The AICAS 2025 conference will take place at the ENSEIRB MATMECA school, located within the Talence campus of the University of Bordeaux. The buildings are easily reachable by public transport: the B line of the tramway runs along the front of the school, and the stops “Arts & Métiers” (coming from city center) and “François Bordes” (coming from Pessac) are less than a 5 minutes’ walk from the entrance. Additionally, buses 8, 35, 73, 80 and 87 all stop at a 10 minutes’ walk from the buildings.

As stated above, tickets for the public transport network can easily be bought at the vending machines placed close to many tramway stops. You can also buy tickets online and validate them using Bluetooth using the free application provided by the Bordeaux public transport network “TBM”.
